Karbon Hero partners with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (“UTM LOCARTIC”), to accelerate decarbonization of energy intensive industries from the application of waste heat recovery solutions pioneered by UTM LOCARTIC.
Both parties will strengthen the work of promoting more efficient use of energy in key industrial sectors supporting them in reducing carbon intensity and complying with local ESG objectives, in-line with the New Industrial Master Plan 2030. This collaboration will drive the use of recovered waste heat for electricity generation and hydrogen as an energy storage solution.
“At Karbon Hero, we believe in science-based research and hope to assimilate academic and industrial practices into tangible efforts that will accelerate global climate resilience. The work done by UTM LOCARTIC has great potential in catalysing energy efficiency as a service.” Says Dr. Sarah Shahril, Founder of Karbon Hero.
Karbon Hero will complement UTM LOCARTIC’s development and commercialization of its waste heat recovery technologies such as Electric Turbo-Compound (ETC), Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) and Thermo-Electric Generation (TEG) systems, by utilising its experience and expertise in carbon accounting, reporting and verification frameworks for the issuance of Genesys Credits from waste heat recovery projects. This will create a new revenue stream for energy intensive industries to decarbonize at an accelerated rate.
“We are confident that our solutions have the potential to further accelerate industrial decarbonisation within energy-intensive industries. This collaboration helps make the case to industry players that waste heat recovery systems are financially viable to deploy and maintain.” Says Professor Dr. Srithar Rajoo, Director of UTM LOCARTIC.
Active academia-industry synergy like this will further propel Malaysia as a leader in environmental and decarbonization solutions to meet net zero goals by 2050.
